So today I turned 40.

And, not usually one to reflect on key events like this, it does strike me as quite a turning point in what has already been a pretty eventful life.

Ten years ago I had just been told that I had Acromegaly, a benign tumor in my pituitary gland. Through most of my twenties I had felt rubbish: lethargic, uncreative, sexually bereft. Removing that little tumor suddenly awoke my creative side, and I’ve not looked back since.

In my thirties I’ve written numerous pieces of music, DJ’d and promoted club nights, seen the birth of my beautiful little niece, changed jobs, remained single (not so pleased about that bit). Oh – and I wrote a book too.

So as I sit here, surrounded by cakes and cards and people that care for me, I can’t help but reflect on how amazing the past ten years have been and the incredibly opportunities that have been given to me.

They say ‘life begins at 40’. I think they might be right.
